£7100 Paid For House
A tiled roof, roughcast, concrete block house on a section of 33.8 perches at 34 Wai-iti terrace, Fendalton, was sold for £7lOO at public auction yesterday. The property was offered on account of the estate of Percival Brooks Witt by Mr N. H. McCrostie. The house has a lounge, diningroom, sunroom, two bedrooms, kitchenette-dinette, oathroom, laundry and built-in garage.
The attractively laid out section runs to the Wairarapa stream.
The initial bid was £6500. There were two bids of £250 and one of £lOO. The Government valuation is £6675, and the rates £59 10s 9d. Mr J. L. Bowis’s farm of 95 acres at Leeston was passed in at £15,200. The property was offered by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op Association, Ltd. The auctioneer was Mr C. S. Gibbs.
The land, subdivided into six main paddocks, has been in Mr Bowis’s family for more than 55 years. Improvements include a three-bedroomed house, implement shed, dairy, fowlhouse, woodshed and storeroom.
