AFTER THE EXAMS.
Keeping Pupils Occupied
With senior public examinations finishing so early, schools were faced with the problem of keeping pupils occupied until the end of the year, the headmistress (Miss P. M. Robinson) told the monthly meeting of the Christchurch High School board of governors. AH schools faced the same problem, said Miss Robinson. She was interested to note that some business firms took it for granted that senior pupils would leave as soon as their examinations were over. It was possible for schools to engage in extra-curricula
activities, such as the youth forum which had been organised for sixth form pupils this week but schools were usually limited in the number of pupils they could send to these outside functions.
Commenting on the recent Government proposal to increase the rentals to S per cent of the capital value on ail departmental houses, the secretary (Mr P. J. Halligan) said one of the anomalies of the proposal was that it would not affect all caretakers equally. This was unfair, especially when, as in the case of their own caretaker, it was the land that was valuable and not the house.
