November 8 SHIPPING DELAYS.—The clipper ship Star of Tasmania, it will be seen, is again engaged to load wool in'the roadstead of Oamaru, proceeding thither about the middle of December. She is at present discharging her home cargo, and, as in the case of the Thracian, no small delay, trouble, and expense are caused by the indiscriminate manner in which the Otago and Southland goods have been shipped. The mixture of goods on board the Thracian, and other malarrangements of charterers, have been the cause of an extensive waste of time and money in the case of that vessel, and the ready discharge of the Star of Tasmania’s cargo is affected by the same

circumstances.—"Otago Daily Times,” November 4.

It is stated that an overture recently made to the General Government by Captain Patterson, of the Naval Brigade, as to the procuring of a gunboat for Otago harbour, has met with approval, and that the requisition will be forwarded to the Imperial Government, with the recommendation of the Government of the colony. The terms upon which the requisition has been made for a gunboat for the protection of the port, and for the drilling of the Naval Brigade, are so favourable that there Is a strong probability that it will be compiled with by the Imperial Government, unless there exist some special reason to the contrary.—lbid.
