Terry Late Entry For Scramble

A former New Zealand title-holder, G. Terry, of Palmerston North, has been accepted as a late entry for the national 250 c.c. scramble championship at Findlay’s Farm, Halswell, on Sunday.

Although this does not alter the order of favouritism—the defending champion, A. Collison, also of Palmerston North, should win—but it does lessen the odds in his favour. In the last two seasons Collison has developed into one of the most outstanding motocross experts in the country but although he holds the 250 c.c. title, his main impact has been made with 500 c.c. machinery. Terry’s career has been less spectacular, consistency being one of his outstanding attributes and 250 c.c. racing his speciality. Riding New Cycle Terry could well turn the tables on Collison for he has an extra card up his sleeve for this race in the shape of a newly-imported 250 c.c. Greeves Challenger, currently one of the world’s most outstanding light-weight scramble machines. This will be his first race on the new machine. For the last few years, terry has ridden a 250 c.c. 8.5. A., an extremely reliable machine but one which is now very dated and lacking in bite.

Neither Collison nor Terry are strangers to Findlay’s Farm, having raced there with distinction on several occasions. Last year, Terry produced one of the best performances of his career to finish second in the main 500 c.c. race of the Halswell 100 Grand National Moto-Cross—-on his tiny B.S.A.
