Concern Over Frequency Of Air Services

The air services committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce would not like to see the frequency of air services reduced because of bigger aircraft carrying more passengers when the National Airways Corporation replaced its Viscounts, said Mr J. Roysmith at a meeting of the chamber last evening. Mr Roysmith said this was discussed with the district manager of N.A.C. (Mr J. E. Davies), who told the committee that the new aircraft would not result in serious

loss, if any, of service frequency.

He said the committee had ( also been told that direct lights from Christchurch to I such places as Hamilton, Napier and Rotorua could “materialise in due course,” and i that the figures indicated that I those three cities were well ahead of other North Island secondary ports. “It appears that no direct flights will be provided at an early date,” said Mr Roysmith, "but current figures indicate that Hamilton could take three direct flights a week and the other cities one each.” He said the committee was still keen to see an earlier direct flight to Auckland each week so that Christchurch businessmen might have the opportunity to spend about five hours in Auckland before boarding a direct flight back to Christchurch.
