No Permit For Stand Yet

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter)

WELLINGTON, October 20

The application by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association for a building permit for the erection of a new grandstand at Addington Show Grounds is unlikely to receive official consent for from 12 to 18 months.

The Minister of Works (Mr Alien) has given this reply to a written request by Mr N. E. Kirk (Opp., Lyttelton) that the application should be re-

considered. Mr Kirk wrote on October 6, asking for consent to the issue of a building permit. Mr Allen has replied as follows: — “The decision that this work is unlikely to receive consent to the issue of a building permit under 12 or 18 months from the date of application has been carefully

reconsidered in the light of representations received.

“The problems facing the association as a result of temporary deferment are fully appreciated, but it is considered that the nature of this work does not carry that degree of essentiality in the public interest that would justify it being granted precedence over numerous other projects in Christchurch. “In the circumstances, 1 cannot do other than concur that this work is one which does not warrant an earlier use of building resources than already indicated.”
