Chesterman In Good Woodville Gallop
(From Our Own Reporter) PALMERSTON NORTH
Chesterman galloped twice at Woodville yesterday in preparation for today's engagement against high-weight class at the Waverley meeting. The chestnut started off to run seven furlongs with Campden, but he was pulled up before reaching the half-mile. He came on the track later to complete a useful six furlongs. Lately Chesterman has been troubled by shin-soreness, so his trainer, E. Ropiha. brought him to the track today heavily bandaged. Ointment under one of the bandages caused it to slip early in his trial, after which Ropiha stripped both off and sent him out to sprint alone on the No. 1 grass. Working freely. Chesterman reeled off the distance in
Imin 18 4-ssec. the last halfmile in 51sec and the final three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. He is in good physical shape, although Ropiha believes he will need his Waverley race to condition him fully for his I hurdles assignment at Trenitham on Saturday. | Rossmoyne, another Waverley starter, strode easily lover half a mile in 51 3-ssec. I taking 37 l-ssec to sprint his final three furlongs. He is lin good heart also and this seems to be his chance to jclear maiden class. Both horses will be ridden by the stable jockey. J. R. Dowling.
Polo Prince has started work again under J. P. Carter, but so far he has not attended the training tracks. Yesterday Carter said he would road work the Melbourne Cup winner for a while before doing much with him.
