ANNUAL GAMES
Interchange Of Tours
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. New Zealand and Australia might meet annually in Rugby League tests, the president of the New Zealand Rugby League, Dr. L. J. Cooney, said yesterday.
The tests would amount to only one or two encounters each year and would be in addition to the normal biennial interchange of tours by the two countries. Dr. Cooney and the N.Z.R.L. secretary, Mr J. E. Knowling, discussed the suggested tests while in Australia last year.
Further discussions have been held with the president of the Australian Rugby League, Mr W. G. Buckley, who is on holiday in New Zealand.
“We should look to the day when we will be seeking more and more international competition,” said Dr. Cooney. “Depending upon the international programme, we could play one match a year against Australia, or perhaps two games on a home-and-away basis.”
