Profit On Nails
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct 10. The New Zealand Hardware Federation's executive had considered inviting a “guinea pig” prosecution to establish the futility of trying to get justice from the Price Control Tribunal in the attempt to get a higher mark-up for nails, the president (Mr I. A. McGregor) said yesterday. He told the federation’s annual meeting at Takapuna that the matter had been deferred after legal advice which said that the executive had no mandate from members to commit them or the federation to a maximum fine of £5OOO or the secretary and executive to six months imprisonment (These are the maximum penalties facing a hardware retailer who sells nails above the restricted price.)
