Eleven Hurt In Six Road Accidents

Eleven persons were injured in six road accidents in Christchurch at the week-end. Four people were taken to hospital after a car in which they were travelling struck a power pole at the corner of Ferry road and Mackworth street at 7.15 p.m. on Saturday.

They are Janet Morrison, 68 Mackworth street head injuries; Linda Janies, of 35 Yaldhurst road, head injuries; Alan Walker, of 130 Fitzgerald avenue, head and chest injuries; Janus Barnes, of 130 Fitzgerald avenue head injuries.

Miss Morrison, Mr Walker and Mr Barnes were admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital. Miss James was treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Alan Steven Walker, of 5 Mackworth street, suffered a broken leg when he fell from a motor-cycle at the intersection of Barrington and Howard streets at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday. His condition is satisfactory.

Thomas Forsythe, of 101 Springs road, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital W'ith head injuries after fallling from his bicycle at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Dixon Whiting, of 52 Hewitts road, suffered head injuries when the car he was driving struck a fence at the

corner of Carlton Mill and Hewitts roads at 6.33 p.m. on Saturday.

Francis Hennah, aged 19, a student at Lincoln College, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital with head injuries after being struck by a car on the Main South road at Rolleston at 1 a.m. on Sunday. A young man was admitted to Christchurch Hospital after a collision between two cars outside the Kaiapoi Post Office about 8 p.m. on Saturday. He is Richard Morris, aged 17, of 34 Wilton crescent, Burwood, who was sent to hospital after being examined by a Kaiapoi doctor. Two other persons. Thomas Gough, aged 17, of 25 Hoani street, Papanui, and Diane Bargas, aged 16, of 420 Burwood road, were treated for slight head injuries by the doctor and sent home. The driver of the second ear, David John Jones, aged 17, of 17 Wesley street, Kaiapoi, and his passengers, Kenneth Jones, aged 20, and Herbert Hawthorne, aged 17, of 2087 Main North road, were unhurt.
