BAD AREAS FOR TV
Translators To Be Used Areas around Lyttelton, Sumner and Heathcote shaded by hills from the new Sugar Loaf transmitter will be served by low-powered pocket translators. The N.Z.B.C. regional engineer in Christchurch (Mr R. G. Tulloch) said yesterday that the three translators now on order would operate on Channel Four. He said they would be erected on suitable sites in the shaded areas within a few weeks. “We have been investigating these blind spots since Sugar Loaf came on to full power last month,” he said. “We hope to improve reception in those areas with the translators. “Coverage will be limited approximately to the three localities with a deficient signal. “They comprise about 20 per cent of Lyttelton, 15 per cent of Sumner and most of Heathcote.”
