Won At First Start
Johnny Chappelet which was sold for a substantial sum to Mr H. Holmfield, of Melbourne, early this season, won at his first start for his new owner at Kilmore. near Melbourne, last Tuesday. Johnny Chappelet which started at 7 to 4 on, succeeded in the second division of the Yonkers Handicap, a ninefurlong event for three-year-olds. He ran the distance in 2min 27sec, giving him a mile rate of 2min 10 3-ssec. According tn Johnny Chappelet’s trainer-driver, G. Rothacker, he was only coasting throughout the race. His winning margin was five yards. Five of the winners on the 12-race programme were Zealand-bred and another was by the former New Zealand sire Dignus, now standing in Victoria.
Jaygo, a son of Dignus and the Dillon Hall mare Star Event, won a division of the Glenfern Stud Sapling Stakes, for two-year-olds. The other division of this race went to Glenfern's Frost, a daughter of Thurber Frost and Great Star. The other New Zealandbred winners were King Gypsy, Zing (Smokey Hanover—Cadenza) and King. The latter, which is. by Flying Song from Luronne, created a track record and a mile rate of 2min 5 4-ssec in winning.
