£320 Theft In Daylight
An engagement ring worth £lBO, a dress ring valued at £lOO and £4O in cash were stolen from a house in Hills road yesterday.
The theft occurred between 10.30 a.m. and 12.45 p.m. while the house was empty. The dress ring consists of a blue sapphire, with diamonds round the sapphire, with a platinum shank. The ring is described as a small, attractive one, with cluster appearance.
The engagement ring has a large, square, flat emerald with three diamonds at each end. The ring also has a platinum shank. The money stolen comprised two £lO notes and four £5 notes. Between Friday and Tuesday, a Bank of New Zealand cheque for £3OO and £l2O in notes were stolen from a house in Clarence street. An electric arc welder, valued at £BO, has been stolen from a construction site at the University of Canterbury, Ham. The welder is a Young model and is the property of the Fletcher Construction Company. Eighteen bottles of Bavarian beer, a bottle of whisky and 57 blank cheque forms were stolen from the premises of E. Russell and Company, 42 Stanmore road, at the week-end. Yesterday a man attempted to cash one of the cheque forms at a shop. He left the shop while the shopkeeper was telephoning the bank.
