GRINDING PAPER
Complaint By
Shearers
Unsatisfactory grinding paper was costing shearers time and money, a provincial meeting of the meat and wool section of the Federated Farmers was told in Christchurch yesterday. The grinding paper, used to sharpen shearing blades, varied to such an extent that shearers had complained about its quality. The chairman (Mr W. N. Dunlop) said that the shearers could lose as much as an hour's working time if they had to replace the grinding paper while sharpening their tools.
He said the inconsistency of the wearing quality of New Zealand-made shearing paper was the crux of the problem. The meeting agreed to support moves to have the quality of the paper improved.
