BADMINTON
The Canterbury division 111 badminton team won the South Island final by defeating Southland Country, 14-2, at Invercargill on Saturday night. Results were:—
Men’s singles: W. Edgecombe beat L. Holland, 15-2, 11-15, 15-10; A. Karst beat G. Stewart, 15-2, 16-18, 15-7; B. G. Hadlee beat W. Garrick, 15-12, 15-2. Women’s singles: Miss E. Stevenson beat Miss A. Andrews, 11-6, 12-10; Miss J. Goddard beat Mrs S. Proctor, 4-11, 11-3, 11-4; Miss L. Wood beat Mrs Sanson, 11-6, 6-11, 12-9.
Men's doubles: B. Hadlee and W. Edgecombe beat W- Garrick and Andrews, 15-1, 15-5- beat L. Hollands and G. Stewart, 15-4, 5-15, 15-10. A. Karst and D. Ford lost to Hollands and Stewart, 18-14, 11-15, 6-15; beat Garrick and Andrews, 15-10, 15-12.
Women’s doubles: Misses R. Waites and E. Stevenson beat Miss Andrews and Mrs D. Baxter, 17-15, 8-15, 15-6; beat Messdames Proctor and Sanson, 18-13, 9-15, 15-7; Misses L. Wood and J. Goddard beat Messdames Proctor and Sanson, 17-14, 11-15, 15-4; beat Miss Andrews and Mrs D. Baxter, 8-15, 15-12, 15-9.
Mixed doubles: W. Edgecombe and Miss Goddard lost to L. Hollands and Mrs. Sanson, 17-16, 5-15, 5-15. D. Ford and Miss Wood beat G. Stewart and Mrs Baxter, 9-15, 15-6, 15-3.
