David Jeff May Win At Gisborne
David Jeff, a somewhat unlucky third on the course on Saturday, is picked to win the President’s Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting at Gisborne today.
The second leg, the Makaraka Hack Handicap, looks likely to go to Longreach, which has won all four of his starts this season. David Jeff was forced very wide on the turn at the hunt meeting on Saturday, and although he was well beaten his run for third was a good one. Passionate was also involved to the mix-up on the turn, and his second placing was also meritorious. Caramelle, which beat both on Saturday, should be the best of the others. Longreach won so well on Saturday that he must be given every chance of going on his winning way, despite his big weight of 9-6. An apprentice allowance for his rider, G. R. Bell, will bring his actual impost down to 9-1.
Glenaldo and Arabian i Belle, which both ran well for minor platings at the hunt meeting on Saturday, should be his toughest opposition. Selection,:— Noon.
