Soccer Defaulting Causes Concern
The defaulting of soccer matches, which has been causing concern, will be investigated by the Canterbury Football Association and may be discussed at the half-yearly general meeting. The matter arose at last evening’s meeting of the management committee when the New Brighton club protested by letter against the defaulting by Waterside of a C. E. Keys Cup match. “We may, or may not. be i correct in assuming,’ wrote the New Brighton secretary (Mr B. W. Hennessy), “that the Water side club considered that they had little possibility of gaining the Keys Cup, but had every chance with the knock-out fixture fa second division game against Hornby United). “Consequently, we are given the impression that we were completely ignored in prefer ence for a minor fixture. “We consider that this action is of no credit to this club on
the eve of possible first division status. “This committee would be In terested in your comments and views, for we are not in favour of action being taken against Waterside but fee! that the matter should be aired in official circle*.” “They’ve hit the nail on the head.” said Mr R J. Palmer, “and we can’t do anything about it. “There should be a severe penalty for defaulting ’’ “There are far too many excuses for defaults.” said Mr R van der Monde. “It would be too bad if a 3 p.m game at English Park was defaulted the night before.’’ “And they would do it. too,” said Mr Palmer. Cautioned.—Warned for un gentlemanly conduct in the match against High School Old Boys on September 4. the Christ church City and Canterbury centre-forward, D. Watson, was cautioned. Watson was warned by the referee, Mr A L. Gray, for using bad language
