Sport “Too Cheap”
"Swimming is far too cheap until clubs raise their subscrip lions we will be struggling said Mr D. W. Caln (Wharenui) at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Swimming Centr< last night.
The Wharenui club had raised its subscriptions and had found that more parents were taklin, an interest in club affairs, be said. They were attending club meetings to see that their money was wisely spent. Mr J. H. Johnson (Fendattoni said the clubs with the biggesi memberships were those that charged the most. A proposal by Mr R Renouf (Rangiora) that club officials be called together to discuss the subject brought a sharp reac tion from Miss Doreen Brown, a life member of the centre.
“That suggestion makes me want to raise the roof," she said The centre had called several meetings of club secretaries but the response had been discour aging, she said. Mr Renouf countered by Isk Ing it upon himself to arrange a meeting of interested parties
