Egg Marketing
Sir,—A challenge has been issued to the housewives of New Zealand in the proposed egg scheme. A circular has been sent to egg producers for their approval and is described by one producer as a “great thing” for the industry. Now it is up to every women’s organisation to circularise their membership pledging themselves to leave dearer eggs in the shops and on the poultry farm. Until consumers take a firm stand against those who exploit the housewife, they will continue to be compelled to deprive their families of every-day necessaries for a full life.— Yours, etc., TOM BRYCE. September 9, 1965. [The general manager or the New Zealand Poultry Board (Mr A. C. Bridle) said: “The contracts are not compulsory. They do not provide a guaranteed price to the poultry-farmer. They are not designed to provide one flat retail price throughout the year, and it is not expected that they will result in higher average seasonal prices to the public.”]
