Working Loss Greater
A working loss of £4447 for the four weeks up to August 15 reported to the Christchurch Transport Board on Monday was £3830 more than for the corresponding period last year, but £l6l less than estimated.
The deficiency so far this year was £57,492, a decrease of £715 on last year, and £3837 less than estimated, the finance committee said.
Passenger journeys dropped by 30,831, or 2 per cent, and mileage decreased by 3808 miles, mainly because of the reduction of week-end services.
Revenue dropped by £609, but it was £333 more than estimated. Operating expenses increased by £3221, which was £172 above Estimates.
Current standing charges decreased by £2388, while standing charges on old loans were £3OB lower because the loan indebtedness for the old tramway system was extinguished on March 31.
