THEFT IN HOTEL
£53 Taken
Two boys, aged about 12, stole £53 in Warner's Hotel on Friday afternoon.
They entered the hotel by the main door about 3.30 p.m., went past the reception desk in the foyer, and up the stairs to the first floor. A member of the hotel staff was cleaning her room. Her handbag, containing £53 in notes, was on the dressing table. She went to another part of the room, and when she turned round she saw one of the boys running from the room. Her handbag was missing. She telephoned the reception desk, but the boys had run out of the main door into Cathedral square seconds before.
The day porter (Mr H. Smith), who noticed the boys when they entered the hotel, looked round the Square, and later went round the central city area in a police patrol car, but did not see the boys. Detectives are continuing inquiries.
