Champions Retain Junior Ski-ing Titles

The two reigning champions, D Stewart and Miss R. Willis, retained their Canterbury junior ski-ing titles at Mount Cheesman during the week-end. Only skiers under the age of 17 were eligible. Stewart and R. Poulson were clearly the best boys, winning the giant slalom and slalom respectively. but T. Parr, R. Milson and B. Gardner also showed great promise. One of the most notable feats was that of 14-year-old M. O’Brien who finished fourth in the slalom.

Stewart and Poulson repeated last year’s performance by finishing first and second respectively. Miss V. Odie was the unluckiest skier at the championships. Second to Miss Willis in the combined last year, she fell in the giant slalom and although she won the slalom she was too far behind to count in the combined aggregate. Miss Willis fell during the slalom but still finished fourth. She was 14sec faster than anyone else in the giant slalom.
