“The Press” In 1865
August 26. IMPORTING A THOROUGH-BRED.— The “Nelson Examiner,” of the 19th inst, informs us that by the Eudora, Mr W. Robinson has sent out a thoroughbred horse, Ravensworth, a son of Touchstone. The horse has arrived in good health and condition, and from his blood, which is the most fashionable in England, he cannot but prove a great acquisition to the colony Ravensworth is five years of age. is by Touchstone, out of Fair Jean, by Verulam, out of Pantaloon, out of Rebecca, by Lottery
—Cervantes—Don Quixote. Verulam by Lottery, out of Wire (sister to Whalebone), by Waxy. Ravensworth, as far as we could judge of him in his box is an exceedingly racing-looking horse, standing about 15.3. The horse never ran, as when in training, he was disabled through an accident. He is a full brother to Handsome Jack and Kate Hawthorne, and closely related to Lord of the Isles, who was out of his grand-dam by the same sire. It is yet uncertain whether Ravensworth will remain in Nelson for a season, or be sent to Mr Robinson’s run at the Cheviot Hills.
