MORE HOUSE SURGEONS
Board To Seek Approval
Health Department approval for the appointment of two more house surgeons for next year is to be sought by the North Canterbury Hospital Board. Dr. L. McH. Berry, the medical superintendent-in-chief, told the board yesterday that the department had agreed to the board appointing one extra supernumerary, bringing the total number of house surgeons to 23, plus a senior house officer for St. Helen’s Hospital. “We feel that we would like to have 26,” he said. Extra house surgeons would not be sought from the pool of new graduates from the medical school but from other sources.
