Results of the Canterbury amateur wrestling championships held at the Toe H Linwood Boys’ Club hall were.— Bantam-weight—J. Beattie (Linwood) won unopposed. Feather-weight—M. Townsend (Linwood) beat R. Genet (Athletic) on points; Townsend lost to J. B. Roberts (Linwood) by a fall in the first round; Roberts beat Genet by a fall in the second round. Roberts took the title, with Townsend runnerup. Light-weight—B. Tallott (Linwood) beat D. Rees (Linwood) by a fall in the first round; H. Stewart (Linwood) beat R. Gopperth (Crichton Cobbers’ Club) by a fall in the second round; Rees beat Gopperth by a fall in the second round; Tallott beat Stewart by a fall in the second round; Stewart beat Rees on points. Tallott won the title, with Stewart runner-up. Welter-weight—B. Hadcroft (Crichton Cobbers) beat D. Lomax (Linwood) on points. Middle-weight.—P. Terei (Linwood) beat K. Taylor (Crichton Cobbers) on points. Heavy-weight J. Brown (Crichton Cobbers) won unopposed. The referee was Mr A. Pickering and the judges were Messrs G. Hobson, P. Moore, S. Todd and J. Pocock.
