Bowlers Discuss Competitions
A proposal that the three fours competition should be played on a Saturday afternoon instead of in the morning as at present was made by Mr G. Cotton at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Centre. Mr M. S. Robinson said that he felt it was too big a matter to be decided in haste and said that delegates should have the opportunity of discussing the matter with their respective clubs. Mr J. R. Smith said he fully supported the suggestion but felt that it should be brought forward as a notice of motion and asked the president (Mr F. H. Bell) to give a ruling. Mr M. A. Le Cren then said that it would have to be decided at the meeting or left over until next season as entries for the three fours closed on September 3. This was before the next meeting of the centre. Mr Bell then ruled that the matter be left over to come forward as a notice of motion at the next annual meeting and this was accepted. Mr H. Collett, on behalf of the Fendalton club, moved that all clubs with 129 active members could enter an additional team for every 64 members in the three fours with a limit of four teams to any one club. Mr Collett said that under the present conditions of the three fours competition a club with 60 members could enter two teams and his club, with more than
200 members, could still only enter two teams. He said that selectors in the bigger clubs were having difficulty not whom to put into the team but whom to leave out. Mr T. A. Leitch, in seconding the motion, said that it was known that some of the bigger clubs under the present conditions were not going to enter the three fours and he felt that this change would cause them to reconsider their decision. After further discussion the motion was carried. The programme for the season was presented to the meeting. There will be nine rounds of Manning Cup games between October 30, and January 22. Eight rounds of three fours will be played between November 6 and January 22 and seven rounds of Robinson Shield between November 13 and January 22. The Easter tournament will be held between April 8 and 12. The annual fixture for the Barnett Tiki against North Otago will be played at Oamaru on December 11.
