Coincidence
One of those coincidences that lend extra flavour to the enjoyment of a day’s racing cropped up at Riccarton last Saturday. The apprentice, Andrew Telfer, winner of the Fred Jones Challenge Cup this year, was wearing colours made famous by the Jonestrained Limerick, when he was presented with the trophy after the Grand National meeting. Young Telfer was about to ride Waverley, which is owned by Mrs J. W. Woodhouse, a daughter of Limerick’s owner, the late Mr H. A. Knight. Waverley falls far short of Limerick in ability, but he had a good try at winning his second Paparua Handicap. He did well to finish third after being slowest away.
