ADDITION FOR FACTORY

Planning Appeal Allowed Ruske Brothers, Ltd. have succeeded in an appeal from a Halswell County Council decision refusing them permission, under the Council’s undisclosed planning scheme, to extend a furniture factory in existence since 1948 at 191 Halswell road. In a judgment issued by the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board, the council’s decision is set aside and the firm will be allowed to build a 725 square foot extension to its present 6169 square foot factory space. The judgment says that there appears to be some doubt as to the exact status of the land as regards zoning, though the council claimed that the zoning is rural and that furniture manufacture is not a permitted industry. “The board is satisfied that any detrimental effect so far as the neighbourhood is concerned would be slight,” the judgment states. In allowing the appeal, the board says that the additions must be used only for furniture storage and staff cloakrooms, and that access to the factory must in future be confined to a right-of-way known as Day’s road.
