2ND TEST MATCH

5 th-Wicket Recovery ( N.7..P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NOTTINGHAM, August 6 England had made 105 for four wickets in reply to South Africa’s 269, at lunch on the second day of the second cricket test today. Titmus and Barber batted doggedly when England resumed at 16 for two. Barber, however, began to look for runs and the 50 came up in the twenty-second over. Then England lost two quick wickets. At 63, Barber, trying to drive, was brilliantly caught at extra cover by A. Bacher. who knocked the hall up with one hand before completing the catch. Barber had made 41 out of 63 in 105 minutes. Two minutes later Titmus. after square cutting McKinnon for four, tried to dab a ball through the slips, and was snapped up by R. G. Pollock. So England was back in trouble, at 67 for four. Cowdrey and Parfitt then began another slow recovery and were still together at lunch, Cowdrey having scored 28 of the 38 runs added for the fifth wicket.
