Mr T. A. Ross, of Hawera. has been appointed a stipendiary magistrate. Mr Ross will take up his appointment in Dunedin in October after the retirement of Mr J. D. Willis, S.M.—(P.A.) Mr G. L. Spencer, Commissioner of Police, will leave for Sydney next week for a conference with Australian police authorities.—(P.A.) Dr. R. P. Suggate and Mr I. C. McKellar. of the D.5.1.R.. will attend the international congress for quaternary research at Boulder, Colorado, from August 29 to September 5.—(P.A.) Dr. E. 1. Robinson, assistant Director-General of the D.5.1.R., will represent New Zealand at the U.N.E.S.C.O. regional seminar on science policy and administration of research institutions in Sydney from August 10 to September 2.—(P.A.) Dr. O. J. Lewis, M.D. (Otago University) has had the title of professor of mammalian morphology conferred on him. He is on the staff of St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, London.— (London, August 6.)
