MAMMOTH LOTTERIES
Levelling Of Demand Seen (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 5. The steady sale of Mammoth Golden Kiwi tickets when the number five and six lotteries were opened today supported the Government’s view that continuous availability for a limited period would result in a levelling of demand, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) told Parliament today. The limit of four Mammoth lotteries a year had resulted in an unprecedented demand, and caused irritation to persons unable to obtain tickets, said Mr Seath. It was obviously desirable not only to eliminate both these conditions, but also to bring about a simple, steady call on the tickets. The Christchurch demand for Mammoth Kiwi tickets yesterday was not at great as the previous four lotteries. Although most of the number five lottery tickets allocated to Christchurch were sold, there were no queues. One tobacconist in the Sockburn area, expecting a rush, opened his shop at 6.30 a.m., but his first customer did not arrive until 7 a.m.
