TRIALS IN CHCH.
Rowing Team For Aust (N.Z. Preet Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. The New Zealand rowing team to tour Australia later this year will be named after special trials in Christchurch on August 13-14. The New Zealand Rowing Council chairman, Mr L. E. Brooker, said today that about 30 oarsmen competing for 12 places would take part in the trials. After the team was announced it would assemble at a venue to be decided and would remain in training there until it left for Australia on October 29. Mr Brooker said that university examinations which clashed with the tour dates had eliminated about five oarsmen from the final selection trial. A coach and a cox will be named with the 12 oarsmen, probably about two days after the final Christchurch trial. The team will be selected by Messrs D. Rowlands (Auckland), R. Douglas (Mercer) and F. Strachan (Dunedin).
