High Profits In Drugs Alleged

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 5. Cases of alleged high profits in sales of drugs to farmers are being referred by the Pig Producers’ Council to the Veterinary Services Council and the Veterinary Association.

At Pukekohe recently, sulphamedazine, a drug only supposed to be prescribed by veterinarians, and then in small quantities, was being sold freely in 71b lots, the Department of Agriculture’s representative, Mr P. G. Davenport, told the annual meeting of the council in Wellington today. The price being charged was £2 18s or 5 per cent above the real price. A New Zealand-made preparation which only cost 5s for a bottle from the manu-

facturer, was being retailed for £1 10s a bottle, said Mr N. A. Barnett, of Nelson.
