Signals
Sir, —In the article headed “Of Salts and Broth” in today’s issue, mention is made of an international flag signal meaning, “We have a doctor on board,” consisting of a flag with a red cross. Being a former signalman, I know this must be wrong. The flag for this purpose is “M,” which is blue with a white St. Andrew’s cross. The only flag in this code which bears a red cross is the flag “V” (Victor) which means “1 require assistance." Therefore, it seems the crew of the New Endeavour were quite correct in hoisting it.—Yours, EX-R.N.Z.N.-N.Z.14180 August 3, 1965.
