DAMAGE TO BRIDGE
Motorist Took Tractor Unauthorised use of a council tractor and damage to a bridge by some person using the Port Levy-Pigeon Bay road last week-end, was reported to the Mount Herbert County Council yesterday by Cr. C. E. Jenkins. He said the bridge was being repaired by the council. The council’s diesel tractor had been taken from one side of the bridge to the other, and had evidently been used to clear some obstruction to the passage of a vehicle. In the process, the bridge had been damaged. Cr. Jenkins said the tractor’s radiator had been drained to protect the motor from freezing, and it was not known what, if any damage, had been done by running the motor uncooled. He said the works committee had asked the polce to try to find the person responsible—and had instructed the works staff that ignition keys were not to be left in council vehicles. It also was decided to re-deck the bridge.
