Flesh Colours In Bras And Girdles

A new approach in the design of foundation garments—the natural look—which proved very popular overseas has now come to Christchurch.

Displays of new gossamerfine, flesh-coloured brassieres have already attracted interest, and although initial customer reaction has been mixed, store buyers are predicting a great demand in the hot summer months ahead. Made in lycra a mesh-like stretch synthetic, the brassieres are low cut and sparing. Pared down to the cups, with light ribbon straps and narrow elastic back fastening they are ideal for the woman who wants freedom of movement, coolness, and comfort. Boned ar heavily padded brassieres are no longer fashionable, for the fluid line in clothes demands a set ctirving shape. The new styles are light yet, in the slightly firmer materials, also give control. In one city store reaction to these radical changes varied from one woman’s comment that the colouring reminded her of the old sale corsets, to a satisfied customer who thought “there was just nothing belter.” ‘“lt’s certainly a change, but I don’t think they will outsell the white,” said a buyer. “Although they have only been on display a short while we have sold quite a number.” Travellers Women who were travelling oversees had been the main buyers. “These bras are wonderfully light, and as they pack into a tiny space and are easy to launder, they are excellent if you are travel--li-fMF ”

There did not seem to be any particular age group which favoured the new styles. “We have had inquiries from young and middle-aged women,” she eaid. “The type of figure seems to be more important then the years.” For those who prefer a firmer garment in crisp white , there are short and long line designs of fine “fused” tri-

cot, featuring the popular stretch straps. Flesh-coloured girdles and pantie girdles will soon be available in fine lycra which has two-way stretch, but contains less rubber than the usual elastic. Matching flesh-coloured lingerie has not yet arrived on the market, but seems sure to follow.
