LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS
Labour Party Candidates All sitting members other than Mr A. E. Armstrong (City Council and Harbour Board), who is under suspension, have been confirmed by the Labour Party for the local body election on October 9. Candidates were announced yesterday by the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee for all bodies except the North Canterbury Catchment Board. The secretary (Mr J. A. Gregor) said they would be nominated later.
In the following list of candidates an asterisk indicates a sitting member. Mayoralty.—*Mr G. Manning.
City Council. —*Miss M. B. Howard, M.P., Messrs E. G. Adcock, an electrical contractor; B. Alderdice, trade union secretary; W. J. Baguley, salesman; R. J. Cunningham, an accountant; *L. Christie, J. F. Davidson, engineer, *H. E. Denton, T. A. Everett, motor engineer; J. A, Gregor, R. Jones, trade union secretary; S. L. Lacey, a representative; K. Larkin, schoolteacher; *R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., M. J. Mathews, clerk; W. H. Mathison, council employee; *N. G. Pickering, R. L. T. Sandford, maintenance fitter, and *R. H. Stillwell. North Canterbury Hospital Board.—*Miss ' Howard, Mesdames G. E. Boyd, of Lyttelton, N. Sutherland, a welfare worker; *L. E. Macfarlane; I. Jackson, a welfare worker, and P. Zeff, a welfare worker, Mr J. F. Davidson.
Lyttelton Harbour Board.— Mrs G. E. Boyd; Messrs *G. Manning, R. Jones; H. E. Denton and J. F. Davidson.
Mr Gregor said that Mr J. Palmer, who died last week, would have been a candidate for the council and the harbour board.
