N.Z.B.C. VIEW

Not Greatly Disturbed" (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 21. The New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation is “not greatly disturbed” by a report threatening a reduction of the supply of television films to New Zealand. The Director-General (Mr G. H. Stringer) said in a statement tonight the corporation had received no advice from Britain of any dispute between the British Screenwriters’ Guild and the independent television companies’ association. “I was not informed of any such dispute when in London last week, and I assume therefore the situation is not regarded as serious,” Mr Stringer said. “It is a domestic matter which will be settled in Britain, and will not involve the world-wide distribution of their television films.” Mr Stringer said that in any case most British television films shown in New Zealand are imported from the 8.8. C., which is not involved in the dispute. “The N.Z.B.C. is not worried at this stage about even a possible temporary hold-up of supplies from the Independent Television Companies’ Association.”
