10,000 Fail As Drivers
(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 14. About 10,000 people failed to pass the Transport Department’s new standardised driving test last year, says the department’s annual report, tabled in Parliament today. The report says more than 85,600 applicants were tested and about 75,700 passed. The Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) says the failure rate under the new test is higher so “applicants are likely to be more efficient and have a sounder knowledge of the traffic laws.”
