Fast-Growing Role
The chairman of the Middleton Grange board (Mr D. Laugeson) said last night that the present preparatory school opened in 1964 with 69 pupils. This roll had now reached 210. Because of this four additional Plassrooms and an assembly hall were built 12 months ahead of schedule. With four primer classes, four stands, and forms 1 and 2,
there was a demand for a secondary department. The progressive plan for this envisaged: in February next year, two third forms in existing buildings; in 1967. forms 1 and 2, two third forms, and two fourth forms in the first stage of the new secondary building; in 1968. extra space to receive two fifth forms: in 1969, completion of the secondary depart-; ment with sixth forms’ and specialist rooms. When completed, the secondary department would accommodate 480 pupils (forms 1 to 6) and the preparatory 240. Mr P. L. Chignell, the present head, had been appointed principal of both departments, with Mr T. Wilson in charge of the preparatory classes.
