Tributes To Mr Roche
Tributes to the retiring president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, Mr W. H. Roche, of Westport, were paid by the new president, Mr A. J. Nicoll, of Ashburton, and the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) at a function at Addington Raceway last night.
Mr Seath thanked Mr Roche for the co-operation he had received from him and other conference members in the last 18 months. This cooperation had been of the highest order and had helped him when difficulties had arisen from time to time, especially regarding permits and taxation. A presentation on behalf of all trotting clubs was made to Mr Roche by Mr Nicoll. Mr Roche’s daughter, Mrs M. J. Hansby, was presented with a bouquet by Mrs Nicoll. Presentation To Mr Roche A pass which would admit him to any trotting meeting in New Zealand was presented to the retiring president (Mr W. H. Roche) by Mr M. A. MacKenzie (Hawera) at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference yesterday. Mr Roche had attended 35 annual meetings of the conference, the last four of which had been as president, said Mr MacKenzie, who paid tribute to the work done by Mr Roche. Messrs P. R. Bridgens (Auckland), W. A. Craddock (Westport) and A. B. Archer (Reefton) also spoke.
