12-MILE LIMIT
Government “Adamant” (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 14. The chairman of the Fishing Industries Board, Mr I. T. Cook, said his organisation knew the Government was adamant that Japan should recognise the 12-mile limit. Mr Cook was commenting on Japan’s failure to assure New Zealand it would recognise that country’s fishing limits. The Prime Minister, Mr Holyoake, said on Monday that discussions with Japan would continue through diplomatic channels for the rest of the year. “I am sure the Government will do everything possible to see that the new limits are effectively policed,” said Mr Cook.
“There is no point in saying anything more while it is still on a diplomatic level.”
