WAIT FOR TRANSPORT
Watersiders’ Claim
Watersiders were not necessarily to blame for unproductive time on the Lyttelton waterfront, according to the secretary of the Lyttelton Watersiders’ Union (Mr R. K. Fergus) yesterday. He was commenting on a report in which the Waterfront Industry Commission said up to 50 per cent of paid time on the waterfront was unproductive. Mr Fergus said a time check had been taken aboard the coastal motor vessel Pateke. An average of about three hours and 20 minutes a a gang, a day was spent in waiting for motor transport vehicles to arrive. This was not an isolated case and it was not now being cited because it was exceptional, he said.
