Offshore Well In Victoria

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

MELBOURNE, July 14. A second offshore well drilled off the coast of Victoria has encountered strong flows of gas and the well will be prepared for production. The well, Gipsland Shelf No. 2, was drilled by Esso Exploration on a lease held by a subsidiary of Broken Hill Pty. Company, Ltd. The latest gas flows occurred from two zones in the well. The lower zone was at 3731 feet to 3738.5 feet. The final test of this interval through a 56/64th-inch adjustable choke, produced a flow of natural gas at the rate of approximately 9.6 nrililion cubic feet a day with some distillate and no water. The No. 1 well, 4J miles away also produced strong flows of natural gas from two zones.
