Sydney wool auctions continued today under widespread competition from Japan, the Continent, and the United Kingdom, with useful support from Australian mills on suitable wools, the official woolbrokers’ report said. Compared with the previous day’s rates, .values for most descriptions of Merino fleece and skirtings remained unchanged. However, some irregularity was experienced for faulty descriptions. Comeback, crossbred and carding wools, in limited supply, met very keen inquiry and rates for these wools were fully firm. The selection was made up principally of topmaking wools, together with a few average spinners. Clips Bange Wide The clips were drawn from the north, central, and far western plains, the Riverina, central and south-western slopes. Adverse seasonal conditions were evident in practically all clips and there was a fair proportion of prematurely shorn wools. Some wools showed excessive dust and medium to heavy vegetable fault. There was a limited quantity of both crossbreds and carding wools. There was an offering of 13,280 bales, and 98.16 per cent was sold at auction. Crossbred prices were: 56’s good at 65d. 38’s good average at 62jd. Brother Sowing.—Brother Sewing Machine Corporation (New Zealand), importers of sewing and knitting machines, has recommended a final dividend of 5 per cent, making a steady 7i per cent for the year.—(P.A.)
