CITY FIRE STATIONS
Land Purchase Proposed
To complete the ring of suburban fire stations, it might be timely to consider buying land in Hoon Hay and Belfast, said Mr W. E. Olds at the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board’s meeting last evening. The Chief Fire Officer Mr L. R. Osmond) said it might be better to “hasten slowly” and have discussions with the Fire Service Council on the needs of the whole area. Once a station was established, the brigade had to give a service five road miles from it, Mr Osmond said. “We could be getting out into the nevernever land.” Mr Olds: But it’s not too early to do something about it? Mr Osmond: No, but first we should have a look at overall coverage.
