FIREARM LAWS
Views Not Supported (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 14. Views on firearms legislation expressed in Napier by the secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society (Mr I. Robinson) yesterday were not those of the National Federation of Rifle, Rod and Gun Sportsmen, said an official spokesman for the federation today. Mr Robinson was reported as saying proposed new legislation relating to firearms would infringe liberty. Democratic liberties eould be forfeited if proposed restrictions were imposed, he said. Today a federation spokesman said he could make little comment on Mr Robinson’s statement as it was obviously not stating the federation’s views. “Representatives of the federation have met representatives of the Police Department over the last 12 months and have stated to the department that the federation js pleased with the initial progress on proposed firearms legislation, which is based on a common understanding of the problems im volved,” he said.
