POSTS Negro Given Office

President Johnson announced yesterday the appointment of Mr Leonard Marks as director of the United States information Agency. Me replaces Mr Carl Rowan, who has resigned.
Mr Johnson said that Mr Marks was a teacher, lawyer, and Government servant. The President also announced he will nominate Mr Thurgood Marshall, a Negro and former counsel for the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People, as Solicitor-General. In that post he would argue the Government’s cases before the United States Supreme Court. Mr Rowan's resignation and return to private life as a journalist was announced by the White House during the week-end.
A Negro, he was appointed by President Johnson to replace the late Edward R. Murrow.
