EXERCISE IN GULF

Week’s Plan (N.Z. Preet Association) WELLINGTON, July 14. Three launches from the Navy’s Fishery Protection Squadron and one from the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve will leave Auckland next Monday for a week’s combined exercises in the Hauraki Gulf and the Bay of Plenty, From the Fishery Squadron will come H.M.N.Z.S. Maroro, Haku and Paea. H.M.N.Z.S. Ngapona will represent the Auckland Division of the R. They will spend a week away and will concentrate on working as a squadron. The next week the launches will return to sea and assume the role of “enemy" motor torpedo boats. They will launch “attacks ’ on the ships taking part in “Auckex 65," the current antisubmarine exercises in the Bay of Plenty. This will be the last week of the exercise. Flying-boats and jet aircraft from the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the frigates, H.M.N.Z.S. Otago and Taranaki, the British submarine H.M.S. Taciturn, and the auxiliary Tui are already taking part in “Auckex.” In the last week Lockheed P3A Orion anti-submarine aircraft from the United States Navy are expected to join the operations. ,
