TRIPLE BEL: Easy winner over Ilf at Hastings on July 3. Swab taken after that race proved positive. GOLDEN GLEN: Does not run many bad races, and relief in weight could make him a strong contender here.
FLEETING MOMENT: Whyte Handicap fifth was a good Parliamentary trial impressive when winning Dewars Cup over this distance at Awapuni. BIG BILL: Could not be fancied on latest form. MY CONTACT: Seldom runs badly in winter middle distance races at Trentham Third in this race last year MYFILOU: Thirds at Wingatui. Oamaru. and Washdyke give him light-weight's chance here. SIR TORRE: Others preferred THREE KINGS: Does not win out of turn, but strong finish for sixth in Whyte Handicap was encouraging. BLUE DEFAULTER: Running fair races, but has not won since beginning of season. COUNT FILOU: Northern vet eran, which won this race two years ago. C.J.C.
Islington Handicap has been his lone win this season, but must have a light-weight’s chance in ground to his liking. Placed twice at Trentham in the spring. RED SHADOW: No appeal on form. MASTER DEFENCE: Won a double at Egmont, and improved with each race to beat the sprinters at Maramarua Hunt meeting. CAREEN: Place prospect at least on her sixth on the first day. MARIA MITCHELL: Led until close to post in mile Whyte Handicap. Should be hard to beat at this distance. COLONIAL KING: Back to sprinting after easy win over 10£f at Egmont. Mudlark. Should go well. TOUREG: Fair race for seventh in Whyte Handicap. This • field is weaker. FOXY BOY: Last-start third over middle distance at Masterton. Won as sprinter at Rangiora in the spring.
